Analysis of 'Ambulance- Philip Larkin'
SCASI
Setting:
'Loud noons of the city' -set in a city.
'All the streets in time are visited' -in the streets.
'Then Children strewn on steps or road' creates a good image of a community (the children were playing in the streets. This also could be a sign of neglect?)
Characters:
'Then Children strewn on steps or road' Does this mean the children aren't well looked after as they're in the streets?
'Or women coming from the shops' stereotypical woman shopping.
Action, What is happening?
An ambulance comes to collect a man, who is dying. The poem is describing the ambulance as death. It is a metaphor. The action taking place is the journey of the ambulance. The journey of death.
Style:
He writes tactfully by not mentioning the word ambulance throughout the poem which gives it a sense of ambiguity. He uses good imagery, as you can relate to the poem from your own experiences of seeing ambulances. He uses strong colours like white and red which have mixed connotations.
Ideas:
The ambulance is a metaphor for death.

Here is our video about the London Riots.
Our film is called 'No justice No peace'
My team: Sophie Albrow, Lucy Bridgewater, Ben Cooper & James Saunders.
We wanted to make others aware about the different opinions about the London Riots and why the
Riots happened. I think the film was fairly successful as it looked nice and it was effective. To improve it further we would have based it more on the rioters view about the Riots. If we did it again, we would make sure everyone had a specific role and carried out this role.
The film I liked most from the rest of the class was the one on Self Harming, by Minty and Lucy. I liked this because I thought it was effective and factual.

My Half Term Reading
Over the half term; I read a collection of newspapers and magazines. These ranged from 'The Times' to 'Vogue' fashion magazines. I don't usually read newspapers. So having the chance to was great. I found The Times informative as well as interesting.
I also had the pleasure of reading a book, which I have already read. 'Noughts and Crosses' by 'Malorie Blackman.' I read this book a while ago when I was younger, so didn't understand it then, as much as I do now. I thoroughly enjoyed the book as it was filled with emotion.

An experience that made me value myself more
A while back I went and visited a
school my Dad used to go.
I
was in my father’s childhood home and we were looking through photos, as you
do, of him when he was younger. A bit of back ground history: my father was not
from a well to do family. There were 4 children including himself and they were
living in a 3 bedroom council house. His father was a miner and part time taxi
driver whilst his mother sewed for a living. My father went to a school called
St Ambrose, as did his other siblings. St Ambrose was the local catholic
school. There were two schools in his village one for Catholics and one for Non
Catholics.
As I was looking through these photos with
my grandparents, I asked, “Where’s that place Daddy’s in?” They replied that
was his school. I’ll tell you now; this certainly did not look like a school.
There were two smashed windows in the background of this photo and beside my
father was a large burning fire to heat up the playground. This would certainly
not pass nowadays health and safety regulations. We later went to visit this
school, which was still a school a few years ago. It made me think and realize how
privileged I am and some children that go to this school don’t have the same opportunities
as I do as may not enjoy school. This really made me value myself more.
